| A Signature Album is an interpretative story. That is, a story, a summary of each
wedding is created that is better organized, easier to understand,
than the actual events of the day. The visual narrative is based
on my reaction to wedding day events, and on my interpretation
of subjective, personal information gathered in a pre-wedding
conference. These two factors determine the emphasis placed on
incidents that take place on the wedding day. The interpretative process starts with a pre-wedding conference where personal information is gathered that affects four elements of the Signature Album. First, the flow of the story is affected by the significance couples place on story components. The wedding day contains two distinctive parts, the ceremony and the celebration. Their relative importance varies significantly from couple to couple and determines story flow. Second, the tone of the story is determined by the blend of story styles. The emphasis placed on the realistic story or the romantic story changes the tone of the visual narrative. Third, the style of the album is defined by camera technique. A couple's photographic preference from thirteen techniques determines the style in which the visual story will be told. Fourth, the personality of the story is defined by the secondary characters and in what way they will interact with the couple. The bride and groom are individually asked to list groups of secondary characters in levels of importance. They are also asked to list the three most important individuals who will attend their wedding. Discussion often discloses individuals or groups that are important to the story that would have never been considered without a conference. Gathering personal subjective information from couples in advance of the wedding allows couples to have great influence over the flow, tone, style and personality of their wedding album. The wedding story, however, is most influenced by the actual events that occur on the wedding day. Circumstances that are beyond control change the dynamics of the wedding. Spontaneous happenings don't fit into a formula. It is my interpretation of these many factors that adjusts and fine-tunes the story as the day unfolds. Often, what seems to have been a clammily, misadventure or tragedy becomes the strength of the album |
